Building new homes for local people

92 Leyton Green Road site plan

Across Waltham Forest, the Council is working to deliver more homes for local people.

An important part of these developments is delivering improved transport services, new health hubs, schools and community facilities alongside new shops and work spaces to provide local jobs.

The Council has been set a target by the Mayor of London for 18,000 new homes to be built in the borough over the next 10 years.

The Greater London Authority’s annual monitoring report, published in October 2019, shows we have provided more affordable housing – at 42 per cent – than any other London borough since 2015. This is compared to just 17 per cent across the capital.

One of the sites identified for housing development is 92 Leyton Green Road, Leyton.

As part of this development the Council has invested in improvements at Belmont Park School to provide modern facilities for the young people who attend the school.

This includes specialist facilities, so vocational classes can take place, which was completed by the end of 2019 and handed over to the Council in January 2020.

The existing respite care centre at 92 Leyton Green Road will be replaced with brand new facilities (pictured) including a three bed residential, respite centre and therapy hub adjacent to the school at 99 Leyton Green Road so the young people who use the centre have the best possible facilities available for them.

The new Care Centre will provide short  break respite care for around 60 to 70 families a year.

The money generated from the sales of the proposed housing for the 92 Leyton Green Road site will help pay for these new facilities, helping us provide our young people with the high standard of care, education and accommodation they deserve.
