Government approves new selective licensing scheme in Waltham Forest

Private landlords key fob to rent

On Tuesday 21 January 2020, the Minister for Housing Communities and Local Government approved Waltham Forest council’s proposal to designate 18 out of 20 wards for selective licensing.

The new scheme will commence on Friday 1 May 2020 and will run until Wednesday 30 April 2025.

The new scheme requires landlords to apply for a selective licence if they rent dwellings that are:

  • let on a non-exempted tenancy or licence; and
  • located in a designated ward; and
  • occupied by a single household or two unrelated persons
