Come and see the proposals

Priory Court red line plan existing estate

At our drop-in engagement events in November residents made a number of comments about the proposals for new homes and community faclities at Priory Court.

We have looked carefully at those comments and made some changes to the scheme which we now want to share with you before a planning application is submitted in January 2020.

A drop-in public engagement event where residents can ask questions of Council officers regarding the changed proposals is scheduled for Monday 16 December 2019, 4.00pm to 7.30pm at The Lounge, Priory Court Community Centre, 11 Priory Court, Walthamstow, E17 5NB.

What have we changed?

Following consultation with residents the decision has now been taken that the new community community and pre-school nursery will be built in the first phase of the development and will be open before the existing facilities are closed.

We are also looking at traffic management in the area.

Building new homes for local people

Across Waltham Forest, the Council is working to deliver more affordable homes for local people, including Council homes for rent and for shared ownership, where local residents get the first option to buy so they can get a foot on the housing ladder. Our aim is to achieve 50 per cent affordable housing when taking account of all housing schemes across the borough.

An important part of these developments is delivering improved transport services, new health hubs, schools and community facilities alongside new shops and work spaces to provide local jobs.

The Council has been set a target of 18,000 new homes being built in the borough over the next 10 years and our aim is to include as many affordable homes within that figure as possible.

The Greater London Authority’s annual monitoring report, published in October 2019, shows we have provided more affordable housing – at 42% – than any other London borough since 2015. This is compared to just 17% across the capital.

One of the sites identified for development is Priory Court, Walthamstow.
