Local parks to get extra trees to improve air quality

Kite flying at Pimp Hall Park

By April 2020 we will have planted around 1,800 more new trees across the borough this year as part of our work on tackling the climate emergency and improving air quality.

A key part of that planting programme will take place during National Tree Week (Saturday 23 November to Sunday 1 December 2019) when we will be planting trees in nine parks across the borough.

The tree species will be specimen pine trees which are particularly effective at improving air quality. This is funded by the Greener City Fund Community Tree Planting Grant Scheme,

The local parks which will get these trees are:

  • Chase Lane Park, Waverley Avenue, Chingford
  • Mansfield Park. Mansfield Hill, Chingford
  • Memorial Park, Chingford Mount Road, Chingford
  • Pimp Hall Park, Simmons Lane, Chingford

Connecting Communities All Networks event

WF Our Place logo 181119

Waltham Forest Council’s Connecting Communities programme is a shared plan to have a borough that feels like home for everyone who lives and works here, ensuring they feel included, supported and safe.

We aims to unlock the collective power of Waltham Forest’s people to build an integrated, supportive and safe community where every resident and local organisation is empowered to lead change that makes Waltham Forest a better place to live.

As part of this plan we have introduced local networks including in Chingford and Highams Park which has helped bring our local communities together as well as supporting them to share resources and build stronger links with the council.

Our next meeting is an All Networks Festive Event open to anyone who wants to get involved and make a change to their local area.

Refreshments will be provided and the Network Managers and local partners will be sharing information on local developments, achievements and opportunities.

This event is for Network Members who are already registered with the Connecting Communities team. If you are not already a member of the Waltham Forest Council Connecting Communities local network area there is no better time to join!

The event is on Monday 16 December 2019, 1 – 3pm at The Score Centre, 100 Oliver Centre, Leyton,  E10 5JY. Numbers are limited so you must sign up to attend.
