Sansom Road CGI

The 100 per cent affordable rented housing proposals for Sansom Road were approved, subject to conditions, at a meeting of the Council's Planning Committee on Tuesday 12 November 2019.

Schemes such as this are why Waltham Forest has seen the highest percentage of affordable homes built than any other London borough during the last three years.

Building new homes for local people

Across Waltham Forest, the Council is working to deliver more affordable homes for local people, including Council homes for rent and for shared ownership, where local residents get the first option to buy so they can get a foot on the housing ladder. Our aim is to achieve 50 per cent affordable housing when taking account of all housing schemes across the borough.

An important part of these developments is delivering improved transport services, new health hubs, schools and community facilities alongside new shops and work spaces to provide local jobs.

The Council is aiming to deliver 18,000 new homes in the borough over the next 10 years and our aim is to include as many affordable homes within that figure as possible.

One of the sites identified is Sansom Road in Leytonstone.
