Replacing workshop starts next week

Low Hall depot old workshop

Some of the buildings at the Low Hall Depot were no longer fit for use and the decision has been taken to replace them

Temporary buildings to house administration offices have been placed on the site and are now being fitted out ready for use form mid-November.

The next stage is to remove the existing workshop and replace it with a modern one which meets the needs of those using this depot.

From Monday 28 October 2019 the removal of the current workshop will take place including removing the concrete slab and piles which support the building.

Inevitably there will be some noise and dust nuisance during this work, but it will be kept to the minimum by the contractors involved.

The removal will take around four weeks.

The new workshop will involve some pile driving and the laying of a new concrete slab before the steel building can be erected.

That work is due to start in late November 2019 and finish in January 2020.

Working hours will be 8am until 5pm, Monday to Friday, with no weekend working.

Throughout the work contractors’ vehicles will reach the site through the Argall Way Industrial Estate to minimise disruption to residents and Barn Croft Primary School.

We apologise for any inconvenience caused.

Going electric to combat climate change

Electric Street Sweeping machines

As part of our response to the Climate Emergency the new waste and street cleaning contractor is using electric vehicles to reduce emissions and improve air quality.

The Council is the first in the country to use fully electric street sweepers.

Our two brand new Electra 2.0 NEO sweepers are out and about in our town centres, pedestrian areas and cycleways to keep Waltham Forest clean before returning to Low Hall Depot each evening to be recharged ready for the next day.

To make sure these vehicles are kept on the road extra electric charging points are being installed at the deport.
