Monday deadline for Draft Local Plan comments

Draft Local Plan Health and Housing icon

Monday 30 September at 5pm is the deadline to send in your comments on the Draft Local Plan.

Around 1,000 people have been to our engagement events since July and we have received several hundred comments on the Draft Local Plan... but we still want more.

This Plan will shape our borough until 2035 so it's important as many individuals and community groups as possible let us know their views before the deadline.

Your chance to shape our borough

Central Area Map

There’s a lot of work taking place across the borough to make sure we have the homes, work places, transport network, schools, health and leisure facilities that our residents will need in the future.

To help us make sure development happens in a coordinated way we have prepared a Draft Local Plan which will cover the period from 2020 to 2035.

It sets out how the borough can achieve an appropriate balance between physical, social, economic development and environmental protection through growth and sustainable development.

This Plan will shape developments and guide decisions on the location, amount and types of development the borough requires to meet local needs.

When finally adopted, it will replace a number of other planning documents, so all our policies are in one place.

The Draft Local Plan recognises the different needs of different parts of the borough and has three sections covering the north, central and south areas of Waltham Forest.

Draft Local Plan July 2019 cover

We want the Draft Local Plan to reflect what residents want to see our borough look like by 2035 so we want to hear from as many individual residents as possible.

We've already had a large number of comments from local people, businesses and community groups which are all brought together into one report which will include our responses.

If you are involved with a community group and wish to make a collective response that is welcome too.

Reference copies of the Draft Local Plan are available in each library across the borough but may not be borrowed.

A full version of the Draft Local Plan is available on the Council’s website along with the supporting documents and a link to the online response form. Reference copies are also available in libraries.

What happens when?

When the consultation closes on Monday 30 September every individual comment will be considered by the planning policy team and a response to each comment drafted.

They will then be published in a report which will be subject to a second round of engagement during Spring 2020.

if you are a Community Group that wants to get involved in the second round of engagement please let us know.
