Across Waltham Forest, the Council is working to deliver more affordable homes for local people, including Council homes for rent and for shared ownership, where local residents get the first option to buy so they can get a foot on the housing ladder. Our aim is to achieve 50 per cent affordable housing when taking account of all housing schemes across the borough.
An important part of these developments is delivering improved transport services, new health hubs, schools and community facilities alongside new shops and work spaces to provide local jobs.
The Council has been set a target of 18,000 new homes being built in the borough over the next 10 years and our aim is to include as many affordable homes within that figure as possible.
One of the sites identified is Sansom Road in Leytonstone.
The proposal is to provide:
- a five storey residential building containing 32 apartments, all of which will be available at social rent
- refuse and recycling facilities
- cycle storage
- three parking bays for people with disabilities
- private external amenity spaces as well
- a buffer between the roads
- a safe pedestrian footpath through the scheme
A planning application, reference number 192307, has been submitted.

From Monday 12 August 2019 the car park and ball court have been closed as part of the preparation of the site before development takes place.
The Planning Committee is expected to consider the planning application for Sansom Road this autumn.
