The proposals for improving the High Street and Market aim to celebrate the unique character and heritage of the area, bringing out local stories and histories and creating moments of pause and intensity.
We want to keep Walthamstow High Street as a vibrant, varied place of trade and focus for the Town’s communities and activities.
Walthamstow town centre is changing, and the Council recognises the opportunity to make positive changes to ensure the future of the market and the surrounding shopping area..
We would like to hear your ideas on how the area could change to improve business and the experience of residents.
We will be running events over the next few weeks and will be on the High Street on:
- Thursday 4 July 10am to 1pm
- Wednesday 10 July 2pm to 5pm
- Friday 19 July 10am to 1pm
- Sunday 28 July 12pm to 3pm
so you can come along and make your suggestions or you can let us know your views online

As work begins on the renovation of the EMD Cinema to bring it back into use as a 1,000-seat venue for shows and events hoardings are due to be installed around the site this week.
The hoardings will make the site secure while work takes place and reduce any noise and or dust nuisance that may otherwise disturb nearby residents.
We apologise for any inconvenience caused while this work takes place.

More than 30 delegates to an International Markets Conference, organised by the Greater London Authority (GLA), spent a morning at Walthamstow Market to see the changes taking place at Europe’s longest street market.
The delegates, who had travelled from as far as Hong Kong, Portugal and the United States of America, saw the planned improvements at Rosebank Villas as well as the proposals for improving the junction of Palmerston Road and Willow Walk.
They were told how London Borough of Culture events, such as Art Night this Saturday, were taking place in the market area and about the new specialist markets that have opened in the area this year.
Briefings on Crate St James Street, the viewing gallery at 1B Coppermill Lane and how Heritage Lottery Fund grants helped pay for shop front improvements in St James Street.
