Waltham Forest Council and the England & Wales Cricket Board (ECB) this week (Wednesday 26 June) celebrated the opening of Leyton Cricket Hub, the result of a significant investment from the Council and ECB to deliver the first phase of a  project to encourage more people to use.the sports ground on Leyton High Road.

The cricket hub was created in conjunction with ECB and Essex County Cricket Club, and will allow Waltham Forest to build on an already rich cricketing heritage in the borough. Essex Country Cricket once played at the ground so it was appropriate that England and Essex batting legend Graham Gooch was a keynote speaker on the day.

Waltham Forest is also the borough where the globally famous Dukes cricket ball is produced, used in all England’s home test matches.

This was the launch of the first phase of the scheme, delivered in just six months, with future phases including the creation of a real food hub, to feature a food hall, cafe, demonstration kitchen, food market and community space

Can your community group run Langthorne Park Pavilion?

Langthorne Park Pavilion Leyton

Langthorne Park was opened on Saturday 17 June 2000.

The site acquired by Waltham Forest Council in 1996 for the Langthorne Park development.

The park features a number of specially commissioned art features enhancing both the physical environment of the park as well as providing visual representations of the site's long history.

We are looking for an organisation that has the enthusiasm, ideas and commitment to bring the pavilion back into full use, regaining its rightful position as a central hub in the community, while keeping the current activities that use the pavilion.

We are offering Langthorne Park Pavilion rent free for a fixed two-year period at which point we will review progress alongside the community partner. Please see the Expression of Interest document for full details.

Across Waltham Forest the Council is working to deliver more affordable homes for local people, including Council homes for rent and for shared ownership where local residents get the first option to buy so they can get a foot on the housing ladder.

An important part of these developments is delivering improved transport services, new health hubs, schools and community facilities alongside new shops and work spaces to provide local jobs.

The Score Centre site in Leyton is currently the largest project in the Council’s programme bringing new facilities and homes to this part of our borough and we want to hear your views. Closing date for comments is Monday 8 July 2019.

A planning application is due to be submitted during the summer of this year when there will be a further opportunity for residents to comment.
