At its meeting on Tuesday 4 December Waltham Forest Council’s Planning Committee approved a planning application for Blackhorse Point.
The Blackhorse Point site is currently a public car park comprising 280 spaces, run by National Car Parks.
In 2017, the 1.8 acre car park site was unlocked for development by the Mayor of London, and has been allocated for a new residential-led, mixed-use and car-free scheme by both the Greater London Authority and the London Borough of Waltham Forest.
The approval, which is subject to planning conditions being met, will:
- Deliver 350 homes for Blackhorse Road and Waltham Forest.
- Provide 50 per cent affordable homes including at London Affordable Rent for local people.
- Enhance the creative offer in the area with new workspaces for start-ups and businesses.
- Enliven the high street with a mix of new shops to support small and independent retailers.
- Deliver a car-free development to encourage greener, cleaner modes of transport.
- Provision of a Community Cycle Hub.
- Complement nearby developments and reflect the history of the area.
Barratt London, in partnership with Transport for London (TfL) will be delivering a residential-led, mixed-use development which meets local housing needs and provides a new lively active street for local people to enjoy.
The first thing to happen on site will be hoardings going up to make the area secure.
Work is likely to start by Summer 2019 and be completed by Summer 2022.
We apologise in advance for the disruption that will occur while this development takes place and assure residents and local businesses that any nuisance will be kept to the minimum
