Bakers Arms conservation area appraisal and management plan

Bakers Arms Conservation Area Boundary Map

We want your views on our draft appraisal and management plan for the Bakers Arms conservation area.

The conservation area was designated in 2015, and these two documents are statutory requirements that will guide how the special character of the area is maintained and enhanced over time.

The documents contain information for residents and businesses about maintenance of, and changes to, their properties. Once they are adopted, they will guide how planning applications within the conservation area are determined.

The consultation will run until Friday 26 October 2018.

Walthamstow Central Bus Station

Route 48 and 55 buses

Transport for London (TfL) is proposing to withdraw route 48 between Walthamstow Central and London Bridge to manage bus numbers on both London Bridge and Hackney Road, two corridors identified as currently having more buses than demand requires, leading to unreliable journeys. Over the last five years usage on route 48 has dropped by 21 per cent on weekdays, 17 per cent on Saturdays and 13 per cent on Sundays.

TfL also proposes to divert route 55 away from Leyton High Road and extend to Walthamstow Central Bus Station via the current route 48. The consultation closes on Friday 09 November 2018.

Walthamstoiw Supernova

In September 230 residents booked free tickets to hear six presentations from designers and architects who introduced their ideas for how to improve the Rosebank Villas route into Walthamstow High Street.

Those attending gave most votes to the concept put forward by Ed Crooks. The panel, choosing the concept to follow up, agreed that the Walthamstow Supernova concept put forward by Ed Crooks would now be developed into a detailed design before being implemented. The £2,000 prize money is a fixed fee to support Ed Crooks in researching the materials, colour scheme and installation process working together with Matter Architecture so that the proposal forms an integral part of the improvements to Walthamstow High Street and market.

Work will begin on site in spring 2019 following the Borough of Culture launch in January.
