A major scheme to reduce flood risk to more than 2,000 homes and businesses in the Lliswerry area of Newport has been officially opened by Deputy First Minister, Huw Irranca-Davies MS, marking the start of Natural Resources Wales’ (NRW) Be Flood Ready week.

Another milestone has been reached in the construction of the Aberaeron Coastal Defence Scheme which will provide future protection from flood and coastal erosion.

Council wins prestigious award for Glynneath Flood Alleviation Scheme

Neath Port Talbot Council has been awarded an ICE (Institution of Civil Engineers) Cymru Award for its scheme to alleviate flooding in Glynneath delivered with Atkins Réalis and Knights Brown Construction.

It celebrates the culmination of five years of dedicated development and delivery, made possible through funding from the Welsh Government’s Flood and Coastal Erosion Risk Management Programme.

Record investment in coal tip safety continues to protect Welsh communities

Welsh communities are being better protected from the threat of disused coal tips, with over 3,000 inspections carried out so far, and updated data published.

Wales gives beavers dam good protection

The Welsh Government will extend European Protected Species status to European beavers, making it illegal to deliberately harm them or damage their habitats. The legislative changes bring Wales into line with England and Scotland in recognising beavers as a native species requiring protection.
