Evaluation of the Additional Learning Needs system: scoping report

This report presents a theory of change for the reforms, summarises findings from a synthesis of existing evidence on Additional Learning Needs (ALN) system implementation, and articulates the plans and priorities for the next phases of the evaluation.

  • Discover how Ysgol Min y Ddol and Ysgol Merllyn are using personalised assessments to complement their approaches to assessment.

  • Personalised Assessments are mandatory in 2023 to 2024, however teachers should note there is no specific ‘window’ for using them. Schools have the flexibility to schedule the personalised assessments at any point during the academic year that they consider is most beneficial to inform learning, teaching and progression planning.

The SHRN Student Health & Wellbeing Survey and the School Environment Questionnaire (SEQ)

As well as completing the surveys, participating schools are asked to avoid delays in receiving school reports by ensuring that they have entered their Total Year Group numbers and submitted the parental opt-out form via their school dashboards by 15 December. GwE Gogledd: Improving our understanding of practical work in primary science

Researchers at Bath Spa University and the University of Manchester are looking for teachers in Wales to help improve our understanding of practical work in primary science in schools. The survey will ask for your thoughts and experiences regarding practical work in primary science and the questionnaire link is available in English.

Talk PANTS Day

Have you received your bilingual books? Thanks to support from the Welsh Government, you should have received five free copies of the NSPCC’s Pantosorws a Phwer y PANTS. Use this fantastic teaching tool to Talk PANTS in the classroom. The NSPCC are encouraging all schools across Wales to get involved in an online competition and hold their own Talk PANTS Day on or around 23 January 2024. More information will be available in Dysg at the beginning of next year.
