Developing high quality teaching and leadership through guaranteed career-long professional learning and support for all staff is central to the realisation of our vision for education in Wales and is one of the five enabling objectives in 'Our national mission: high standards and aspirations for all.’
Starting this year, structured, long-term evaluation will be carried out to understand how the Curriculum and wider reforms are working and the extent to which they are having the desired impact for all learners, regardless of their background or needs. Between January and June 2023, Welsh Government facilitated a curriculum design pilot, with practitioners trialling a ‘backwards design’ approach to designing learning with purpose. 30 schools worked together and alongside Initial Teacher Education leads, regional and local professional learning leads and advisors to test how the approach could work in their context, and support practical application of Wales’ principles of curriculum design. The group produced case studies and other materials, available now, to share the valuable learning and experiences with colleagues. See them here.
