Hold the date - 2023 autumn industry roadshows

Visit Wales is pleased to announce the return of its tourism industry roadshows.  Further details including how to register will be available soon but, in the meantime, the regional dates are:

  • South East: 12 October – Coldra Court Hotel
  • North: 18 October – Llangollen Pavilion
  • Mid: 25 October – Aberystwyth University
  • South West:  8 November - Swansea.com Stadium

Domestic GB Tourism Statistics (day trips): January to March 2023

Data on day trips by British residents to destinations throughout Britain for January to March 2023 has now been released.  The statistics in this release are based on a new combined online survey that replaces the separate Great Britain Tourism Survey and Great Britain Day Visits Survey that ran until the end of 2019.

Exciting new sales channel now live on TXGB

The Day Out With The Kids website now gives Welsh tourism businesses the ability to share live availability and prices with a leading platform in the family days out space. Day Out With The Kids has partnered with TXGB to integrate a ticket purchasing experience on their website. 

All connected Welsh businesses have the opportunity to become bookable, sharing live availability and prices on a dedicated website for making it easier for families to discover ‘Things To Do’ and has over 35 million annual website visitors.

Event Wales funded events 2023:

  • England v New Zealand One Day International Cricket, 8 September, Sophia Gardens, Cardiff - This match is the first One Day International (ODI) in the 4 match series between the two sides.
  • Tour of Britain Stage Eight, 10 September, Margam Country Park – This year’s Tour of Britain will feature its first return to the legendary Caerphilly Mountain climb since 2013. Over 100 of the world’s best riders will race from Margam Country Park to the finish line in the shadows of Caerphilly Castle.

Tourism projects in Wales win share of £5 million to help get the basics right for visitors

Tourism projects across Wales have won a share of the Welsh Government’s £5 million Brilliant Basics Fund to help deliver a first-class holiday experience, Deputy Minister for Arts, Sport and Tourism Dawn Bowden confirmed on 3 August.

29 tourism infrastructure projects in north, mid and south west and south east Wales have received investment from the fund, which helps deliver small-scale tourism infrastructure improvements.

Fire safety guidance for guest accommodation

A guide on how to comply with fire safety law in small places to stay, such as B&Bs and self-catering properties has now been published on the Welsh Government website: Make your guest accommodation safe from fire | GOV.WALES


Assistance dog owners and their rights

Assistance dogs are not pets and businesses are encouraged to amend any “no dogs” policy to one that allows access for assistance dogs.

The Equality and Human Rights Commission have produced a guide to help tourism businesses welcome people with access requirements. New Chair and Vice-Chair for Amgueddfa Cymru announced

Deputy Minister for Arts, Sport and Tourism, Dawn Bowden has today (8 August) announced the appointment of Kate Eden as the new Chair of Amgueddfa Cymru.  As Chair of Amgueddfa Cymru, Kate Eden will be accountable to Welsh Ministers for the conduct of Amgueddfa Cymru’s affairs and has responsibility for chairing and overseeing the Board of Trustees.

'Working together to save lives’ - Welsh Government teams up with police ahead of 20mph roll out

The Welsh Government has teamed up with police forces to help educate motorists ahead of the 20mph default speed limit roll out in September.  To prepare motorists for this significant change, the Welsh Government and the police are working with the fire service, Go Safe (Wales’ Road Casualty Reduction Partnership), local authorities and other community groups to educate motorists.

Written Statement: Final advice on eligibility for Covid-19 autumn booster vaccination in 2023

A written statement was issued by Eluned Morgan MS, Minister for Health and Social Services, on 8 August:  

As part of its latest review of the Covid-19 vaccination programme, the Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation (JCVI) has today (8 August 2023) published a statement with its final advice on eligibility for the autumn 2023 Covid-19 booster programme. As ever, the primary aim of the Covid-19 vaccination programme is to boost immunity in those at higher risk from Covid-19 and to improve protection against severe illness, hospitalisation and death.

Reminder: Electronic Travel Authorisation scheme

A United Kingdom Electronic Travel Authorisation (UK ETA) is a British entry permit document that will soon be available online. It will allow travellers from eligible nations to visit Great Britain for a number of different purposes without acquiring a visa. An ETA will cost £10 per applicant.

Information and guidance about the scheme can be found on Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) - GOV.UK (www.gov.uk) and a communications toolkit is available to assist with stakeholder engagement and preparing visitors.

Step-by-step videos about border procedures when travelling to the UK have been published by the Independent Monitoring Authority for Citizens’ Rights Agreements (IMA).  You can view the videos on the IMA website.
