A west Wales coffee company is celebrating after receiving a top accolade in the Great Taste Golden Fork awards 2022. From the seven Welsh products that received the top honour of 3 gold stars in the Great Taste awards 2022, the Golden Fork from Wales was awarded to Bay Coffee Roasters for their Indonesian Sumatran Fairtrade Organic coffee.

Let’s start on a positive note – wasn’t it amazing to see everyone at the Royal Welsh Show in July after a 3-year break?
I was so encouraged to see so many of you at the event and hear your stories of resilience, innovation and agility which have helped the industry to adapt and even capitalise on the Covid pandemic. The ingenuity of this industry never ceases to amaze me and in many cases you’ve taken the opportunity to reinvigorate your businesses.
When we left the show on the final day back in 2019, who could possibly have predicted a Covid-19 pandemic and the huge impact it was to have on the global, UK and Welsh economy, the way businesses operate, and of course our personal lives.

Future Diets is a major piece of research providing a long-term view of consumer eating habits over the next 10 years and will be seminal in helping businesses plan long-term NPD and business strategy. This collaborative research was led by the Insight Programme and the IGD, with support from Kantar and thefoodpeople. Autumn is an exciting time for Wales as the Welsh men’s football team will be playing in the World Cup and the Rugby Autumn Internationals will be taking place throughout November. The industry-wide Food & Drink Wales campaign, #CaruCymruCaruBlas #LoveWalesLoveTaste, will be back in force to drive engagement with the trade and raise consumer awareness, calling on supporters to show their national pride and #CaruTimCymru #LoveTeamWales. Food & drink businesses will be offered a digital toolkit and encouraged to take part in the campaign.

In October and November 2022 we will be running a series of decarbonisation training workshops that will focus on raising the awareness on the importance of moving towards net zero for the sector, Wales, UK and global benefits by providing beneficiaries with the right skills to make decisions on how they can move towards net zero, share best practice with colleagues and implement changes to their business strategies, technology and process design in all day to day working practices.
