Economy Minister visit to the new look Cei Llechi

Economy Minister, Vaughan Gething recently had the opportunity to see the transformational redevelopment of Cei Llechi (Slate Quay), Caernarfon, following a £5.9 million regeneration project.

This ambitious project, which was recently opened has seen the Harbour Office building and the derelict buildings behind it transformed and bought back to use, with funding support from the Welsh Government through Visit Wales’ Tourism Attractor Destination project.

Modern day Cei Llechi has seen the dilapidated buildings transformed into 19 workspaces for local artisan / craft manufacturers and restaurant. The site also includes 3 self-catering holiday lets, the Harbour Office’s boardroom is available to hire and an interpretation area sharing more information about the importance of Cei Llechi historically locally, nationally and internationally. The essential component is that industry are making returns to this area of Caernarfon, albeit on a different scale to the old days.

Tourism market demand reports: June 2022

Visit Wales has recently published the latest findings from the market and brand consumer research covering the UK and Ireland markets.

The survey of potential visitors to Wales was undertaken in June 2022 and updates survey work undertaken Pre-Covid in February 2020.  It presents some very important findings on perceptions and associations of Wales as a tourist destination, motivations and barriers to visiting Wales out of the main season and attitudes to sustainable travel.

Reducing single-use plastic in Wales

In 2020 the Welsh Government sought views on proposals to ban or restrict nine single-use plastic products that are commonly found littered.

With a total of 3,581 responses the overwhelming majority of responses were in favour of banning the suggested single-use plastic products. A summary of responses can be found on Reducing single use plastic in Wales | GOV.WALES.

Following this consultation, the Environmental Protection (Single-use Plastic Products) (Wales) Bill will be introduced at Senedd Cymru.

The draft of the Bill is available and shows the proposed scope and direction of the Bill before its formal introduction in the autumn. Find out more on The Draft Environmental Protection (Single-use Plastic Products) (Wales) Bill | GOV.WALES.

Work continues on the preparation of the Bill and there are likely to be changes before it is introduced to the Senedd. This page will be updated as the Bill passes through the legislative process in the Senedd.
