Written statement: international travel changes

Eluned Morgan MS, Minister for Health and Social Services has stated (29 November 2021):

We continue to advise against all but essential international travel. However, in line with the changes being introduced elsewhere in the UK to help prevent the spread of the new coronavirus variant – omicron – into the UK, I am today agreeing new rules for all travellers arriving in Wales from non-red list countries.

From 4am on Tuesday 30 November all fully-vaccinated travellers arriving in Wales, including under 18s, will need to self-isolate on their return and take a PCR test before or on day two. We are considering whether we will also require a PCR test on day eight.

Once they have received a negative test result they can leave isolation. If a positive test is received they continue to self-isolate for ten days from the date the test was taken.

Information on international travel can be found on: Travel: coronavirus | Sub-topic | GOV.WALES

The NHS COVID Pass: promotional pack can be downloaded from Gov.Wales.  Businesses are encouraged to display and share these posters, images and videos to promote and explain the NHS COVID Pass.

Co-operation Agreement signed

The First Minister and Leader of Plaid Cymru have signed (1 December) the Co-operation Agreement, marking the start of a three-year partnership.

The agreement covers 46 policy areas, including the extension of free school meals to all primary school pupils and childcare provision; the creation of a national care service and immediate and radical action to address the second homes crisis.

The Welsh Government and Plaid Cymru will work together to jointly develop and oversee the delivery of policies in the Co-operation Agreement.

New food and drink vision launched as Winter Fair returns

Growing the Welsh food and drink industry’s value to £8.5bn and increasing the number of employees in the sector who receive the Welsh Living Wage to 80%, both by 2025, are at the heart of a new Welsh Government vision.

Rural Affairs Minister Lesley Griffiths made the announcement as she visited the Royal Welsh Winter Fair, which returned after being cancelled last year due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The Vision is aimed at every business in the industry from retail and exporters to tourism, from brewers and bakers to manufacturers and processors.

Support and manage disability and health at work

Many employers are currently facing challenges in recruiting the people they need to help their business thrive. It has never been more important for those employers to keep and develop the people they already have.

It’s therefore crucial that businesses have the tools they need to prevent long-term absence and avoidable job loss because of ill health or disability.

The UK Government is testing a new online service for employers which provides advice and guidance on managing health and disability in the workplace. This explains your legal obligations and good practice.

By taking part, you’ll receive free information and guidance on disability and health-related employment issues.

Closing date to submit feedback is 13 December 2021.

Visit the Business Wales website for more details.

Save the date - Monday 20 December, 4pm: Wales International Travel Trade webinar

Save the date for the Wales International Travel Trade webinar, at which you will be able to hear from the European Tour Operator Association and UKinbound, plus leading tour operators and Destination Management Companies (DMCs).  More details to follow.

Be Mighty this Christmas

The Be Mighty. Recycle campaign is back to encourage everyone to keep recycling this Christmas; as we create more waste with the extra food we consume and the mountain of packaging from Christmas gifts that we give or receive.

To support the campaign on your social media channels, email walesrecycles@wrap.org.uk  to get access to the campaign assets.

There is also the opportunity to enter a Christmas competition for the chance to win a festive hamper: Just follow  @WalesRecycles on Twitter and Facebook.

Find out more on www.bemightyrecycle.org.uk.

Reporting PAYE information in real time when payments are made early at Christmas

HMRC know that some employers pay their employees earlier than usual over the Christmas period, for example the business may close for Christmas and New Year. If you do pay early, please report your normal payment date on your Full Payment Submission (FPS).

Visit the Business Wales website for more details.
