Moving the Welsh Economy Forward: “A Team Wales recovery, built by all of us”, Economy Minister

The Welsh Government will pursue a progressive economic policy that focusses on better jobs, narrowing the skills divide and tackling poverty, Economy Minister, Vaughan Gething, has said.

At a hybrid Economic Summit, the Minister has invited businesses, trades unions and local government leaders to discuss how Wales can create a stronger, fairer, greener economic future.

In setting out his vision to move the Welsh economy forward, the Minister commits to extending a Team Wales model to offer ‘as much certainty as possible’ for businesses facing a volatile recovery.

Mid Wales Tourism and Hospitality Conference: taking place on 9 November 2021 – Book your tickets

The first major tourism and hospitality conference held in Wales since the COVID-19 pandemic began in the UK last year is taking place in Llandrindod Wells in November.

Organised by MWT Cymru and supported by Visit Wales and Cambrian Training Company, the 2021 Mid Wales Tourism and Hospitality Conference will be held at The Metropole Hotel on 9 November from 9.45am to 3.30pm

The focus of this year’s conference is to explore how individual businesses, communities and organisations can pull together and rebuild as we move forward to 2022 and beyond. The conference provides an opportunity to cover topics that matter most to tourism and hospitality businesses and is an event not to be missed, no matter how big or small your business is.

The speaker line-up includes Lucy von Weber, Head of Marketing at Visit Wales; Suzy Davies, Chair of the Wales Tourism Alliance; York Membery, journalist and travel writer; food specialist, Nerys Howell, to name a few.

“The conference is designed to give businesses a clearer idea of what's going on, what's changing and what we can all do to better work together to keep Mid Wales at the forefront of people's minds,” said Val Hawkins, MWT Chief Executive.

Delegates will hear from experts in their fields and have an opportunity to network with other tourism and hospitality professionals, industry leaders, suppliers and business support organisations.

National Mentoring Day 2021

National Mentoring Day was launched to recognise the significant benefits of mentoring across the UK and takes place on 27 October each year. Mentoring is help by one person to another and can make a significant in the mentee’s knowledge, work or thinking.

Everyone from individuals, companies, schools, communities, universities and governments are encouraged to share their own mentoring success stories and case studies and to use the day to participate in raising awareness about mentoring, available mentoring schemes and promoting the positive benefits that mentoring brings.

GALWAD: Welsh communities answer call to build future World as Wales’ contribution to major cultural programme in 2022

Creative Wales and Collective Cymru has announced the making of GALWAD for UNBOXED: Creativity in the UK, 2022.

Inspired by global expertise in the climatic, technological and social conditions of the next thirty years, communities across Wales have been exploring the possibilities of Wales in 2052, creating a ‘story-world’ for a major cultural event in September 2022.

The story world of 2052 will form the basis of GALWAD: a new kind of multi-platform, multi-lingual story that will unfold across TV drama, digital platforms and live events for a week in September 2022.

More information on the project and opportunities to get involved with GALWAD will be released across social media and the GALWAD Cymru website.

Year of SMART Towns

The Welsh Government recently announced a package of support to revitalise Welsh town centres. The aim is to enable businesses to plan projects which lead to economic growth as well as helping them make the best use of digital technology. This includes utilising data to help firms better understand their customer base and trends which will support businesses in their future planning and marketing activities. This will be achieved through ‘The Year of SMART Towns’ and is closely aligned with the Welsh Government’s Transforming Towns agenda and wider funding for town centres.
