Fresh start to new term with investment to help improve air quality in schools, colleges and universities

As pupils and students are set to return for the new autumn term, the Welsh Government has announced a new investment in technology to improve air quality and quickly disinfect classrooms, lecture theatres and workshops.

Curriculum and Assessment Requirements for 2021/22

The temporary modification and disapplication of curriculum and assessment requirements in response to the COVID-19 pandemic ceased on 23 July 2021. As a result full curriculum and assessment requirements will resume in September for 2021-22 academic year. As announced on 6 July, to create space for practitioners to prepare their curriculum for teaching next year, we intend to remove the requirement for schools to undertake end of foundation phase and end of key stage assessments in the 2021-22 academic year, for year groups that will be transitioning to the new curriculum in September 2022. This will only apply to primary schools.

Support will help newly qualified teachers into new roles

New teachers in Wales who saw their training disrupted by the pandemic will receive a term of employment to help them into their new roles, thanks to an extra £1.7m in Welsh Government support.

Head teachers, Deputy Head teachers or Heads of Department are required to sign and return the induction claim form on behalf of individuals claiming the IAY Induction payment, further guidance can be found under the title ‘How to claim the second grant payment’

Free downloads of brand new resources

Meat Promotion Wales (HCC) has created new resources for teaching young people about where food comes from, cooking and healthy eating. Teachers can download these free resources from the new website redmeathub.wales/. It has been updated over the summer to include more lesson plans, worksheets, recipes, videos and interesting interactive quizzes to use in the Foundation Phase, Key Stage 2, 3 and 4.
