EU funds have been supporting business throughout the pandemic and will continue to do so, with Business Wales EU funded projects, Entrepreneurship Support and SME Support extended to December 2022 and awarded an additional £10.94m EU funds. This brings the total EU funds for the projects to £67m and will allow Business Wales to continue to focus on the vital support that is required as more and more businesses find themselves in need of support and advice in the current climate, and more new business start ups as a result of redundancies elsewhere.
Having an internet presence and good broadband provision has become more vital than ever for businesses. Welsh Government has therefore extended the Superfast Broadband Exploitation operations to December 2022 with an additional £872k EU funds bringing the total EU funds provision to £8.22m to ensure businesses are utilising the internet to their best advantage.
Welsh Government has also been able to award a further £35.1m EU funds into the Wales Business Fund, run by the Development Bank of Wales, making a total fund of £171m EU funds that will realise at least an additional £186m of private investment into equity and loan provision for Welsh businesses.
These EU funded investments are all in addition to those provisions that Welsh Government and UK Government have put in place as a COVID response for business and offer a much broader package of support for businesses in Wales than is available to their counterparts in most of the rest of the UK.
You can find out more information about Business Wales support here, on the Superfast Broadband Exploitation programme here, and on the Wales Business Fund here.
