Welsh Government is currently gathering opinions about the mandatory status of English in the Curriculum and Assessment (Wales) Bill. Our proposal is to amend the Bill to make English mandatory from the age of 7. This would mean it would be for schools to decide whether and how to teach English prior to that age.
Welsh government policy leads will be hosting a Q&A session. Please email dysg@gov.wales if you’d like to attend. The session may be of interest to deputy/headteacher, or Foundation Phase leads in English medium primary schools.
