Performance of tourism in Wales

The latest statistics on the performance of tourism in Wales have now been published covering the period January to June 2019.

The figures show continuing strong performance from the domestic market, with record levels of overnight trips to Wales for the first half of the year. International trips to Wales have also increased during this period in 2019 compared to last year.

Take a look at our short film covering the main results and find a copy of the detailed report here.

Visit Wales industry roadshow 2019 content now available!

We recently held a series of tourism industry roadshows where we shared details of our new tourism action plan “Welcome to Wales. Priorities for the visitor economy 2020-2025”. This new Plan will be the successor to the current Tourism Strategy; Partnership for Growth which ends 2020.

During the roadshows we also provided an update on The Wales Way and confirmed the next themed year will be Year of Outdoors 2020.   The presentations and films shown at the roadshows are now available and can be downloaded here

More information about the Year of Outdoors and how you can get involved, will be made available on the Visit Wales Industry website link soon.

If you attended one of the roadshows, please complete the online feedback form by 9 December. Your feedback is invaluable to help us with planning our industry events in the future.

UK autumn campaign

Our autumn campaign has been running since early October.  Targeting high-yield visitors primarily in London and the South east and inspiring them to visit Wales for a short break or weekend this autumn.

Through a range of marketing activities including out of home advertising in London, video on demand, digital TV and advertorial packages in titles such as the Sunday Times and London Evening Standard.  Press ads have been places in key publications including BBC Countryfile magazine, Dogs Monthly, Trail and Country Walking.

Our autumn digital activity has been running with ads promoting walking, culture, city breaks, mountain biking, cycling, spas and tying this in with The Wales Way providing inspiration for itineraries and routes to discover Wales by car, public transport or by foot.  You can take a look at our online food article in The Times here.
