Wales Way bridge

The Wales Way

The Wales Way is a family of three national routes that lead visitors along the west coast, across North Wales, and through Wales’ mountainous heartland.  The routes – The Cambrian Way, The Coastal Way and The North Wales Way - highlight unmissable attractions and uniquely Welsh experiences along the way: natural wonders, landmarks, towns, galleries and museums.

Further information is now available here where you can take a look at our Opportunities Document which provides information on the background to the development of The Wales Way. Also keep an eye out for our Industry guide, which will be published later this year for tourism businesses and will include a step-by-step guide on how to make the most of The Wales Way.

We have also been busy promoting The Wales Way which has received some great media coverage. Take a look at some recent features -

Blas Cambrian Taste – a new project promoting local food & drink.

Research and experience tell us that tasting new dishes, encountering local ingredients and enjoying local hospitality are all key parts of a day out or holiday. Howel Food Consultancy is working on the Blas Cambrian Taste project highlighting Welsh food and drink businesses, located within a 40 minute drive from the A470, that source, sell and serve local food and drink.

If you are a food business, have achieved either a grade 4 or Grade 5 in FSA food hygiene rating and would like to be part of the Blas Cambrian Taste project, they would love to hear from you.  They are also keen to hear about food festivals or venues offering local food and drink experiences.

Once the list of venues is complete, Visit Wales will be marketing the project in a variety of different ways. All venues will be given branded stickers and will be promoted via social media. The project is part of The Wales Way campaign so there will be a Blas Cambrian Taste link on the Visit Wales website showcasing all the venues and itineraries will also be created so that visitors can choose the best places for local food & drink when planning their trips.  If you would like any more information about the project, please email enquires@howelfood.co.uk or call 0292 0220822.  The deadline for all applications is 28 February 2019.

The world’s greatest cricket celebration is coming to Cardiff in 2019!  ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 will be hosted jointly by England and Wales and takes place from 30 May to 14 July 2019.  Across forty five days and eleven venues, ten of the world’s best international teams will battle it out to win cricket’s showpiece event.  The Cardiff Wales Stadium, home to Glamorgan County Cricket Club, will host four group stage matches, featuring six different nations, some of whom will bring a significant international following, in the biggest sporting event taking place in England and Wales this summer!  The dates of the matches are –

  • Saturday 1 June – New Zealand v Sri Lanka
  • Tues 4 June – Afghanistan v Sri Lanka
  • Saturday 8 June – England v Bangladesh
  • Saturday 15 June – South Africa v Afghanistan

Cardiff will also host 4 of the warm-up matches in May.  This will be the fifth time that Wales has co-hosted the competition with England.
