£1.9m EU boost for Wales’ growing geospatial and space technology sector

Aberystwyth University, in collaboration with QinetiQ, will lead the Geographical Data and Earth Observation for Monitoring (GEOM) programme, to help companies in Wales exploit the fast-growing spatial intelligence market, including satellite and drone technology. 

£4.6m investment in new tourist facilities for the Brecon and Monmouth Canal, backed by £2m of EU funds

The Monmouthshire and Brecon Canal Adventure Triangle project will help develop outdoor recreation, tourism and leisure activity along the canal in Torfaen and Caerphilly.

£2.3m EU funding to boost financial services and data science talent pool

The additional investment in the Financial Services Graduate Programme, which has already been awarded £2.5m of EU funding, will support more graduates to become professionals in the two important financial services and data science sectors in South East Wales.

Regional Investment in Wales after Brexit - engagement feedback published

Following the publication of Regional Investment in Wales after Brexit policy paper, a range of engagement activities with partners and stakeholders took place between December 2017 and March 2018 to seek views on the paper's ideas and proposals.  

An independently produced summary report of findings was published on 2 July.

The European Commission has published its proposal for Horizon Europe, the successor to Horizon 2020.

The Welsh Government wants the UK Government to retain full access to European programmes including Horizon 2020 after Brexit (link).

The latest call for new Interreg North West Europe proposals is now open

The eighth call for transnational co-operation initiatives will run until the 22 November 2018.

Interreg North West Europe renewable energy funding call 

The NWE Programme also has a targeted call worth €50m underway to support renewable energy projects in North-West Europe.

Supported by EU and Welsh Government funds, Ponty Lido was restored to its former 1920s glory. This open air pool in Pontypridd now attracts 75,000 visitors a year.

EU funded Business Wales helped Sally Roberts and Carl Pottinger secure a £30,000 tourism grant to convert this former chapel into a popular tea room
