Wales secures €90m of EU research funding to drive innovation

Wales has been successful in winning €90m of funding through the EU’s competitive research and innovation programme Horizon 2020.

The announcement follows the publication of the Horizon 2020 Annual Report 2017, which shows in the last year Welsh organisations have won more than €30m of Horizon 2020 funding to drive ground-breaking projects with partners across Europe.

Over £1.7m EU funding boost for Holyhead tourism sites

Holy Island

Attractions on Holy Island are to benefit from a funding boost after the green light was given for over £1.7 million of EU funds, as part of a £2.8m investment programme for the area, announced by the First Minister.

The developments at Holyhead are part of the Welsh Government’s wider EU funded Tourism Attractor Destination programme, led by Visit Wales, which aims to create 11 must see destinations across Wales. 

£110m town centre regeneration programme launches in Pontypridd

Building for the Future

Building for the Future will regenerate town centres and surrounding areas by refurbishing or redeveloping derelict or under-used land and buildings and bringing them back to life.

The £110m programme, supported by £38m from the European Regional Development Fund and £16m from the Welsh Government’s own targeted match fund, will support business growth, create employment and increase footfall in town centres.

Last Chance: Research and Innovation EU funding call

The deadline for research and innovation proposals to WEFO to help ‘accelerate world-class collaboration in research and innovation’ is 28 March 2018. Around £30m of EU funds is available.

Second call for Interreg Atlantic Area Projects now open

The Programme supports cooperation addressing shared regional challenges and innovative approaches, to strengthen territorial and sustainable economic development in the Atlantic Area (link).

North West Europe renewable energy funding call now open

The NWE Programme has launched a targeted call to support projects that contribute to increasing the share of renewable energy supply and demand in North-West Europe.
Deadline 31 July 2018 (link).
