National Reading and Numeracy Tests 2017

Secondary Schools should receive their test materials this week. If they haven't been received by Thursday or the order is incomplete, schools are asked to contact the Test Order Helpline on 01753 63727.

Primary Schools will receive their test materials after the Easter holidays, week commencing 24 April. 

Schools are reminded that a balanced curriculum should be maintained in the run-up to the tests and that time spent familiarising learners with test techniques should be kept to a minimum.

Education Workforce Council – New registration requirements

From the 1 April 2017 all youth workers, youth support workers and work based learning practitioners working in Wales, are required to register with the EWC.

Financial incentives to attract graduates into teaching announced – Kirsty Williams

Financial incentives of up to £20,000 per student to attract the best graduates into teaching subjects such as maths, chemistry, physics and computer science in Wales.

Education Workforce Council – Schools and FE settings

All school teachers, further education teachers and learning support workers in both school and FE settings are required to register with EWC.  

Role of the special educational needs coordinator

Guidance on the role of the special educational needs coordinator (SENCo) is aimed at local authorities and educational professionals. It provides advice on the role of the SENCo and helps to support a more consistent approach to SENCo practice across Wales.

Application forms for the Apprenticeship Awards Cymru categories are now available. These prestigious awards celebrate the achievements of individuals, employers and work-based learning practitioners who have excelled in contributing to the development of the Welsh Governments Traineeship and Apprenticeship programme. The closing date for applications will be 12pm on 23 June 2017.

Access £3,000 to visit a partner school overseas

UK schools can apply for a £3,000 grant to send a teacher and a school leader to visit a partner school in Asia, Africa or the Middle East as part of the British Council’s Connecting Classrooms learning journey. Participants need to have completed a core skills professional learning course before applying.
