Tourism funds open for applications

Proposals are now being invited from the tourism industry for two funding pots, totalling around £2.5 million over two years.

Listening to your concerns, the timeframe for the funds has been extended to cover two financial years and will help the private and public sector develop and deliver innovative products linked to the Year of Legend in 2017 and the Year of the Sea in 2018.  For financial years 2017/2018 and 2018/2019, the Tourism Product innovation Fund (TPIF) and Regional Tourism Engagement fund (RTEF) will continue to allow investment in the quality of the tourism product at a local level  - critical to the tourism sector competing in the global market place.  The funding will enable private and public sector partners to stimulate growth, demand and improve the Wales visitor offer.

Focus will be placed on supporting the private sector to develop some big ideas, projects which can make a real difference in making Wales a must visit destination and give people compelling reasons to visit Wales. Our objectives and focus for the Year of Legends has been clearly set out and we hope to see some new ideas that can help drive the year to be as great a success as the Year of Adventure in 2016. Looking forward to the year of the Sea in 2018 we need to challenge perceptions with new innovative 21st century products, events and experiences that tell the fantastic stories of our various coastal destinations. Our aim for the year is to celebrate Wales’ epic coast in order to make wales as stand out UK destination.

Both the Tourism Product Innovation Fund (TPIF) and Regional Tourism Engagement Fund (RTEF) are now open for applications and we encourage projects to be submitted that are innovative and high quality. The closing date for the first round of applications is Friday 24th February. A further round will then be launched at this time next year to commit the remaining budget for 2018-19.

For more information or to discuss your proposal, please contact the Regional Tourism Engagement team at regionaltourism@wales.gsi.gov.uk. Proposal guidance and application forms will be available online in the New Year.
