Amount spent on Wales’ disadvantaged younger pupils set to double – Kirsty Williams

The amount of money spent on the youngest disadvantaged pupils is set to double and there will be a £20m boost to improve school standards, Education Secretary Kirsty Williams said today (20 October 2016).

National Reading and Numeracy Tests Ordering System

Schools will be able to order test papers when the order system goes live on 31 October 2016 to 25 November 2016. Schools should be aware that this is a shorter ordering period than in previous years.

Draft Welsh Language Strategy Consultation

During this year’s National Eisteddfod, the First Minister and the Minister for Lifelong Learning and Welsh Language published a consultation on their vision for reaching a million Welsh speakers by the year 2050. As part of the consultation, the Welsh Government truly wish to hear the opinions of pupils in schools all across Wales on our proposals. You can use the resources on our #Cymraeg2050 - Young People website to help your pupils be a part of shaping the future of the Welsh language.

Safer Internet Day 2017 - Online Safety logo competition – now open!

Safer Internet Day will be on 7 February 2017 and we have a new challenge for learners in Wales.  We are calling on learners to take part in our Safer Internet Day competition to create a new logo for online safety in Wales.

Lead Creative Schools – Final round of applications open

The third and final round of applications for the Lead Creative Schools programme is open for applications. Schools are already benefitting from the creative practice developed as part of this programme which is also integral to the development of the new curriculum

Professional Learning Passport (PLP)

The enhanced Passport is now available for all registered practitioners. The Passport is an e-portfolio hosted on the EWC website that supports practitioners in recording and reflecting upon their professional learning through their careers.  The Passport is owned by the practitioner and it will be for individuals to determine with whom and how they share their Passport. 

Get ready for Tax-Free Childcare

From early 2017, Tax-Free Childcare, a new UK-wide government scheme to help working parents with childcare costs, will start to become available to parents.  Parents will be able to open online childcare accounts to pay their providers directly.

CSSIW registered childcare providers, including those delivering on school premises, or in partnership with schools, should have recently received an invitation letter, and can now sign up to the scheme online.

Initial Teacher Education accreditation

We want your views on draft criteria for the accreditation of initial teacher education programmes in Wales and the proposals for enhancing the functions and role of the Education Workforce Council.

External Sharing – Office 365

Hwb users are now able share files in Office 365 with users outside of Hwb. Please note users are only able to share individual files. Folders can only be shared with users with a Hwb account.

New nursery facilities at Mount Pleasant Primary School funded by the Welsh Government were recently and officially opened by the Education Secretary Kirsty Williams.

Design the First Minister’s official 2016 Christmas card

Closing date 11 November

Carwyn Jones, First Minister of Wales is inviting children from Years 3 and 4 in primary school to design his official Christmas card this year.

The winner will be invited to the Senedd in Cardiff Bay to meet the First Minister and will receive a signed framed copy of their entry.

A sample range of Barefoot Computing resources are now available to view on Hwb (sign-in). The range includes resources to support the digital competence framework and includes materials for Foundation Phase and SEN pupils.

Digital Competence IPLC Visit to Hong Kong 2017

The Digital Competence Framework is the first element of the new Curriculum for Wales to be made available. With this in mind, the overarching purpose of the 2017 IPLC to Hong Kong is to inspire new approaches to improving digital competence across curriculum areas that will translate into concrete action in Welsh schools.
