Safer Internet Day will be on 7 February 2017 and we have a new challenge for learners in Wales.  We are calling on learners to take part in our Safer Internet Day competition to create a new logo for online safety in Wales.

Lead Creative Schools – Final round of applications open

The third and final round of applications for the Lead Creative Schools programme is open for applications. Schools are already benefitting from the creative practice developed as part of this programme which is also integral to the development of the new curriculum. 

Get ready for Tax-Free Childcare

From early 2017, Tax-Free Childcare, a new UK-wide government scheme to help working parents with childcare costs, will start to become available to parents.  Parents will be able to open online childcare accounts to pay their providers directly.


CSSIW registered childcare providers, including those delivering on school premises, or in partnership with schools, should have recently received an invitation letter, and can now sign up to the scheme online.

Professional Learning Passport (PLP)

The enhanced Passport is now available for all registered practitioners. The Passport is an e-portfolio hosted on the EWC website that supports practitioners in recording and reflecting upon their professional learning through their careers.  The Passport is owned by the practitioner and it will be for individuals to determine with whom and how they share their Passport.

CERN teacher placement 7 – 11 February 2017

Expressions of interest are invited to recruit secondary school teachers to visit CERN, for this once in a lifetime experience that will enrich you and your students. The funding covers teacher’s travel, subsistence and teacher cover whilst away from school. Video of the first Welsh science teachers in CERN.

The Apprenticeship Awards takes place next week at Venue Cymru, Llandudno and recognises the achievements of individuals, employers and providers across Wales. 

The Skills Show 2016

Barefoot Computing Resources

A sample range of Barefoot Computing resources are now available to view on Hwb (sign-in). The range includes resources to support the digital competence framework and includes materials for Foundation Phase and SEN pupils.

Hwb+ Upgrade

There have been a few changes to the look and feel of Hwb+ sites. The ‘Site Actions’ menu is now a ‘Settings’ menu and has moved from the top left to the top right of the screen. View all content is now ‘Site contents’ and lists and libraries are now ‘Apps’.  Help guides for Hwb+ have been updated and can be found in the new help and support area.

Digital Competence IPLC Visit to Hong Kong 2017
