Our Epic summer of adventure starts this week
We told you at the industry roadshows in May that we had big plans for a Year of Adventure campaign this summer in Wales. And we can now finally reveal that Wales is literally ‘EPIC’ this summer as the latest phase of our campaign to promote Wales as an adventure destination starts today.
Giant mirrored letters reaching 4 metres high and 11 metres wide forming the word ‘EPIC’ have popped up overnight at Pen y Gwryd, Nant Gwynant! This innovative travelling art installation is a focal point for visitor selfies and our aim is to encourage image and content sharing on social media using our campaign hashtag #FindYourEpic. The tour is supported by an integrated campaign consisting of PR and media activity, digital advertising, email marketing and social media activity targeting families and visitors in our core regions in North West England, The Midlands, Yorkshire and the South East. Wales has so much to offer to every type of adventurer, and through the tour and the campaign, we’re inviting people to come here and find their own personal epic this summer, whatever and wherever that may be.
The giant letters will pop up unannounced at locations across the length and breadth of Wales over the summer at some of our most epic locations. We hope they’ll inspire visitors and locals alike to get out and enjoy world class adventures. Keep an eye out on our social media channels and let your guests and visitors know if they appear in your area. We’ll be announcing the next location in a few days.
We have a range of digi-banners available in various formats and sizes for you to download and use on your own websites, blogs and on social media to show your support for Year of Adventure and the Epic tour. If you have trouble downloading via this link, email us: yearofadventure@wales.gsi.gov.uk
We’ve already sent a supply of badges to attractions and activity operators, but if you’d like some more just email us on yearofadventure@wales.gsi.gov.uk. We’ll also be dispatching a supply of campaign collateral for activity providers and attractions soon - these include posters, postcards and stickers. Again, just get in touch if you’d like more.
It’s already been an epic start to the summer with the success of our National football team giving us an unprecedented opportunity to showcase the best of Wales to the rest of the world. We were able to react quickly to this success and delivered a range of activity designed to further boost Wales’s profile in key markets. Highlights included television advertising in Germany for the first time over the Euro final weekend, print and digital advertising and a pro-active social media strategy.
Carrying on the momentum of the Euros success, we’re looking forward to this epic tour of Wales over the summer. Keep an eye out for the next location – to be revealed next week.
