Over the last year we have seen a huge increase in
subscriptions to our e-newsletters, so we thought it would be great opportunity

Regional Consortia are asking schools for feedback on the draft Digital Competence Framework (DCF), developed by practitioners from Digital Pioneer schools, until 4 July.
New parents and carers guides are on
their way!
The refreshed How
is my child doing in the Foundation Phase and How was school today? guides will be delivered to schools in early
July with information that will enable and encourage parents and carers to take
an active part in their child's education.

authorities submitted notifications of term dates they propose to set for
2017/18. Information was also received on behalf of 127 VA and foundation
schools; this was a significant increase on the 81 submitted the previous

Changes to the school
governance legislative framework
The Welsh
Government is to consult on proposals to provide governing bodies with
flexibility to appoint governors with the skills they need to be effective and to
determine their constitution to meet their specific needs. ‘School
governing bodies are vital to the success of our schools. They set the
strategic direction for the school, and hold the head teacher to account for

Senior
leaders from the primary sector are invited to an autumn conference where they
can take part in workshops with a sample of primary schools, listen to a
keynote speech from the Chief Inspector and discover a model for primary school
improvement from different starting points. Register your interest

The Ministry
of Defence is inviting applications for 2017-18 from schools with service
children whose parents experience frequent mobility and deployment. Application
deadline is 30 September 2016.
This is the last year of the fund
which is open to all maintained schools across the UK.
The report ‘Understanding the educational experiences and opinions, attainment, achievement and aspirations of looked after children in Wales’ was published in November 2015. A range of new supplementary materials communicating the main findings in accessible formats is available here

Do: Parents, Kids and Money is a parenting pilot led by the Money Advice
Service with Big Lottery Wales, Welsh Government, Children in Wales and others.
The project aims to help children learn about money, and manage it well as
adults.
If your
organisation delivers parenting programmes (Family Links Nurturing Programme or
Incredible Years) you may like to join this pilot running across Wales.
Planning a
school trip this term? Why not encourage your pupils to use Hwb+ to blog about
their experiences?
Pupils can write blogs and post them on your school’s
Hwb+ public website to keep their parents up to date with what they’ve been
getting up to. Alternatively, blogs can be posted on class, subject or year
sites in Hwb+ and used as discussion points when you return to the classroom.

E-learning tool available to schools
in Wales
FFT Education
has launched an E-learning tool to help governors make the most of their Governor Dashboard,
part of data system FFT Aspire.
The Dashboard displays information about results and pupil progress, subject
performance, progress of pupil groups, school context, attendance and
highlights strengths and weaknesses, making it the ideal overview for planning
towards inspections – visit elearning.fft.org.uk

Alun
Davies AM to attend the WCEE Early Years Matters Conference
The Wales Centre for Equity in
Education is proud to announce that Alun Davies (AM) the Minister for Lifelong
learning & Welsh Language has agreed to speak at our annual conference on 6th
July in Swansea at the Village Hotel.
This will
provide the Minister with one of his first opportunities to outline his vision
for the Early Years and Foundation Phase.
The
conference will showcase a variety of examples of Early Years practice from
schools, universities, third sector organisations and policy makers.
