Applications
for this year’s prestigious Apprenticeship Awards Cymru are now being invited
by joint organisers the Welsh Government and the National Training Federation
for Wales (NTfW).

regulations for social care in Wales.

Qualifications
Wales is preparing to launch its online database, Qualifications in Wales (QiW)
on Friday 1st April 2016 to replace the Database of Approved
Qualifications in Wales (DAQW).
To
enable the migration of data from DAQW to QiW, awarding bodies have been
advised that they must cease the submission to RITS of qualifications for use
in Wales from 5pm on 17 March 2016. They will be able to
re-commence submissions to QiW from Friday 1 April 2016. Further details

Reform of GCSEs and A levels in 2017
Qualifications
Wales has announced the GCSEs and A Levels that will be reformed for first
teaching in 2017. The full list of subjects to be reformed is on the Qualifications Wales website.
On 4 April, Qualifications Wales will be publishing
questionnaires to gather feedback on proposed changes to each of these
qualifications. The questionnaires will be available on the Qualifications Wales website and will be open for six weeks.

Welsh Baccalaureate, Qualifications Wales has made a number of recommendations

A new youth work charter that will support young people and enhance their lives has been launched by the Deputy Minister for Skills and Technology, Julie James. More about Youth Work
We are
undertaking a consultation to seek the views on the proposed changes to support
for postgraduate study and certain part-time STEM degrees.
As part of the ‘Focus on science’ campaign and parental engagement, this video encourages children to do well in science as it demonstrates a wide range of careers in the future. Share this video on your schools websites for parents to encourage their children to do well in science.

The Thomas Howell Education Fund for
North Wales extended till July 2016
A fantastic
opportunity for KS 3, 4 and 5 STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths)

Young people aged 14-18 can submit their story for
this year’s prestigious award. Last year’s competition was won by a 15
year-old Welsh writer. Entries are welcome in English or Welsh.
Three Welsh schools each scooped a national
award at the 2nd annual Into Film Awards, which pay tribute to outstanding 5–19
year olds from across the UK who have demonstrated exceptional achievements in
filmmaking and film reviewing.
