A curriculum for Wales – curriculum for life plan launched at national conference
The high level plan for developing a new curriculum for Wales was launched by the Minister for Education and Skills at a national Education conference in October. View the plan; Watch a video recording of the conference.
Pioneer schools appointed to design
the new curriculum
The new
curriculum will be developed by the education professionals in Wales, through a
network of Pioneer schools. Development
of the new Digital Competency framework is now underway to help pupils of all
ages become confident and capable digital citizens. The framework will be made available to
schools by September 2016. View

Independent Advisory Group –
Curriculum for Wales
The Independent
Advisory Group, chaired by Professor Graham Donaldson, will ensure that
implementation remains true to the vision set out in Successful Futures, the recommendations in Teaching Tomorrow’s
Teachers and that the New Deal underpins that vision. View

Strategic Stakeholder Group –
Curriculum for Wales
The Strategic Stakeholder
Group will ensure that key stakeholders are informed of and involved in the
development of the approach to implementing the programme over the coming

Change Board – Curriculum for Wales
The Change Board will
be responsible for the successful delivery of the programme, providing
strategic direction and ensuring coherence across the whole programme. The
Board will work closely with the Independent Advisory Group. View

Education Minister, Huw Lewis has been visiting the sites of two new schools that are benefitting from over £23m of Welsh Government investment.
A new
educational resource aimed at safeguarding and educating young people to stay
safe and prevent child sex exploitation has been launched by Education Minister
Huw Lewis.
A series of
new term planner templates are available for all schools to download. Customise
with your own dates and logos, print and share or upload to your school
website.
Inclusion and Pupil Support
On 17
December, the Minister for Education and Skills will be launching a consultation
on the revised Inclusion and Pupil Support guidance. The consultation will run
until 11 February 2016.
The report
looks at the quality, consistency and impartiality of learner support services
that further education colleges provide to learners. Welsh

for supporting children and young people, aged 0-25, who have additional

New
qualifications database for Wales
Qualifications
Wales is developing a brand new and comprehensive source of information on
approved and designated qualifications awarded in Wales. The
new system, called QiW (Qualifications in Wales) will replace the Database of
Approved Qualifications in Wales (DAQW) and is expected to be activated in
spring 2016. More information can be found at Qualifications Wales’ website

It takes into
account qualifications for care workers in a wide range of health, social care,
early years and play settings. Take part in the review!

Honours list – Nominations Now Open!
The Education and Public Services Group are inviting
nominations for the Queen’s 2017 New Year Honours list. If you know of any deserving people who work in
the Education, Local Government, Communities, Tackling
Poverty, Housing and Regeneration sectors who have demonstrated exceptional
achievement or service, then please submit your nomination by 29 January 2016. Email

New Case Studies
National
Foundation for Educational Research (NFER) has produced eight
case studies on experiences of school partnerships in the Lead and Emerging
Practitioner Schools Pathfinder Project (Tranche 1) celebrating what worked
well. The programme enabled strong performing primary and secondary
schools to match with a school that had already begun its improvement journey
and help deliver improvements in standards and performance.

Don’t miss

(IPLC) Programme. Submit an

Into Films
On the 19 January - Physics students (years 11, 12 and 13) are invited to attend a free screening of Gravity which will include a talk by Dolby Science behind the screen Education Programme. This will take place from 10:00 to 14:00 in the Showcase Cinema, Nantgarw, Cardiff.
Into Film are
offering six young filmmakers the chance to have their short films sent into
space, to be watched by British astronaut Tim Peake whilst on the International
Space Station (ISS) - the first opportunity of this kind ever!
The National
Engineering Competition for Girls is now open!
Talent 2030’s
National
Engineering Competition for Girls invites girls 11-18 to solve the major
challenges of the 21st century! All competition entrants have the
opportunity to get a CREST Award. There are 3 different age categories - Year
7-9, Year 10-11 and Year 12-13. Girls entered individually or in groups of up
to 6. The deadline for entries is 6pm on 18 December 2015. For more information
