Pearson Teching Awards and the winner is…
Congratulations to Joy Ballard Head teacher at Willows High School Cardiff, winner of the prestigious Pearson Teaching Awards Gold Plato Award for Head teacher of the year in a Secondary School. Awards were announced on the evening of Sunday 18 October at a glittering awards ceremony held at London’s Royal Opera House, hosted by TV historian Dan Snow. The ceremony will be broadcast on BBC2 at 6.00pm on 25th October as “Britain’s Classroom Heroes”.
On 13 October the Arts Council of Wales (ACW) announced the 131 schools in the first round of the Lead Creative Schools Scheme, which supports development of creative skills across the curriculum. This scheme is part of Creative Learning through the Arts - a joint Welsh Government and ACW initiative.
On 2 November the London School of Economics will be hosting the German Embassy Career Fair. This event, organised by the German Embassy in partnership with the German-British Chamber of Industry and Commerce, welcomes all teachers and students with an interest in the German language.
The Goethe-Institut has provided details of scholarships for up to 8 teachers to attend a language training course, aimed at promoting languages in schools, in Germany this December. The deadline for applications is the 29 October. More information about the course and Application form
The Children (Performances and Activities) (Wales) Regulations 2015
were laid on Friday 9 October 2015 and, subject to annulment, will come into force on 30 October. We are holding two launch events to discuss good practice. Workshops will be held in Llandudno Junction on 3 November 2015 and Bridgend on 5 November 2015. First Lego League is aimed at 9-16 year olds to think like scientists and engineers, 37 tournaments will take place over the UK. Swansea National Waterfront Museum will be hosting the Welsh tournament on 10 December 2015.
