Year of Adventure 2016 and food
2016 will be the Year of Adventure and now’s the time
to think about how you can get involved and how food and drink can be
incorporated into activities and packages as part of the Adventure theme. If you offer accommodation, why not consider
linking up with activity providers in your area to offer joint packages? If you
run a café or a pub, could you work with other businesses to provide information
to guests on adventures and food trails or safaris? If you offer
breakfasts, could you perhaps turn it into a Welsh breakfast for the
adventurous? Activity providers, why not make your food and drink offer
part of the Welsh adventure experience? These
are just some ideas to get you thinking, tell us what you’re up on twitter

Eat your way around the north Wales coast
One of the fundamental objectives of the Food Tourism Action plan is to raise
Wales’ profile as a high quality food tourism destination. To achieve this, we need to have quality eating establishments which showcase the very best in contemporary Welsh food and drink. Our Tourism Investment Support Scheme (TISS) has supported 6 restaurant type projects
recently, here’s a summary of each project:

area, at Porth Eirias, Colwyn Bay. The restaurant is open plan, with the
kitchen in the centre, serving both restaurant and cafe customers. £100k
support and 14 full time equivalent (FTE) jobs.
Dylan’s Criccieth New

brasserie/cocktail bar, and a stand-alone event/function space to accommodate
live music, cinema and theatre evenings, tastings and special celebrations.
£140k support and 30 FTE jobs.
Catch 22 Brasserie, Valley, Anglesey Opening next year, this will be a new 150 cover
destination restaurant at Valley, Anglesey to include an extension to the
front to accommodate a terraced area on the ground floor and a balcony on the
first floor overlooking the patio. £65k grant creating 29.5 FTE jobs.
Enoteca , Porth Dinorwic Conversion of an unused building into
a 60 cover authentic Italian Enoteca restaurant on the shores of Menai Straits
next to Porth Dinorwic marina. £30k grant creating 8 FTE total cost £286k. Due to open later this month.
Venu, Pwllheli Conversion of a redundant building into a new destination food and entertainment venue on the
waterfront at Pwllheli. The works

into a high quality contemporary restaurant, lounge, dance bar and event venue,
with views overlooking the harbour, to cater for over 150 people. £38,250 grant

Cardiff on list of fastest growing food and drink scenes in UK
Cardiff has been named one of the top five fastest
growing food and drink scenes in the UK according to findings of
analysis of food and drink events held across the UK by Eventbrite. This clearly shows how diverse the food offer is in Cardiff with lots
of many new restaurant and cafés opening their doors recently as well as the increase in the popularity
of street food and unusual and innovative food events.
Brewery boom
According to Drinks
Wales, which represents independent brewers and cider and wine producers, the number
of independent brewers in Wales is rising with the number of breweries doubling
in the past five years to 88. Welsh brewers are taking their beers across the UK and looking
abroad and at home, 20 small Welsh breweries now have their own pubs. The
Campaign for Real Ale (Camra) included 14 new Welsh breweries in its annual
beer guide last year. Great news for the Wales drinks industry!
