Join us for an informative evening to learn more about the waste journey in the district, ambitious recycling targets in Essex, and what happens now none of Uttlesford’s waste goes to landfill. You can find out where Uttlesford stands in the recycling charts, and discuss how we can improve our recycling rates.
Light refreshments will be provided, and there will be opportunities to meet and connect with like-minded groups in the Sustainable Uttlesford network.

Cambridge Carbon Footprint’s 2025 Winter Special showcases planet-friendly home conversions.
The event features eight local eco homes offering tours led by the homeowners, including one in Linton showcasing how a 1970s home has been updated for the 21st century.
Visits are on Saturday 15 November and Saturday 29 November, at 1pm and 3pm.

The Local Nature Recovery Partnership has a new funding opportunity designed to empower local communities to take action in nature.
Community groups, charities, schools and other local organisations can apply for grants of £500 to £2,000 to support projects that contribute to local nature recovery and community wellbeing.
They are looking for projects that deliver meaningful environmental and community benefits, and that align with the Essex Local Nature Recovery Strategy. The strategy was officially launched last month, marking the start of an ambitious plan to restore nature across the county.

Calling all repairers!
The Love Essex Fund is back and offering micro-grants of up to £2,000 to 10 repair projects in Essex.
Whether the group is well-established or just getting started, you can apply. Don't forget to check the criteria beforehand to make sure the project is eligible.
Applications open on 3 November and close on 30 November.

The Essex and Suffolk Rivers Trust and Essex Rivers Hub are inviting volunteers to join Essex RiverWatch. This is an exciting citizen science project that monitors rivers and helps identify where action is needed.
As a volunteer, you will collect monthly water quality data from your local river and make observations of the wildlife and pollution.
No experience is needed and all equipment and training is provided. This is a great way to work together to keep Essex's rivers healthy for everyone.

Join a week-long celebration of local wildlife and climate action across Uttlesford, from 6 to 14 June 2026.
Sustainable Uttlesford and Uttlesford District Council are hosting a week-long festival of wildlife and climate action and events across the district to inspire action and collaboration for a planet-friendly Uttlesford.

A group of 20 Sustainable Uttlesford members and local nature enthusiasts enjoyed a fascinating visit to Hales Wood Coppice, guided by experienced woodsman Andy Basham.
The visit provided an inspiring insight into how thoughtful, small-scale woodland management can support both biodiversity and sustainability.
Everyone left with a deeper appreciation of the hard work and dedication that goes into caring for Hales Wood Coppice, and the many ways in which people and nature can thrive together
