Help bring 'A Library of Things' to Uttlesford

Library of things

A Library of Things is a place where you can borrow or rent useful things for your home, projects and adventures.

The benefits of borrowing items from a Library of Things rather than owning them are multiple. You can:

  • free up space in your home
  • save money by paying a fraction of the purchase cost
  • help to reduce over-manufacturing and material usage
  • help to reduce waste and carbon emissions

We are excited to explore the possibility of introducing a Library of Things in Uttlesford and need your valuable input to make this initiative a reality.

Please take a few moments to complete the survey

Discounted compost bins – start composting from just £10

compost bins

Composting at home has benefits to your garden as well as the wider environment.

It's great for reducing your food and garden waste, enriching soil, saving money and greenhouse gas emissions, and supporting wildlife.

To support more people to start composting, Essex County Council has increased the subsidy it offers on compost bins in the month of September – you can now get a 220-litre bin from £10 and a 330-litre bin from £20.

If you purchase two of the same size compost bins, you can get a further 50% off the price of the second bin. All you need to do is enter your Essex postcode and your discount will be automatically applied.

Take part in the Great Cable Challenge and start recycling your unused cables

International E-Waste Day (14 October) is a key moment to raise awareness of electrical waste as the fastest growing waste stream.

The nationwide campaign encourages people to take action by recycling their old and unwanted electricals.

The focus this year is The Great Cable Challenge and tackling the millions of cables sitting idle in drawers across UK households.

How you can get involved?

Simply bag up your cables – and any other old, unwanted electricals you find in your ‘drawer of doom’ – and visit Recycle Your Electricals’ postcode locator to find your local donation or recycling point.

zero waste week

This week is Zero Waste Week, an environmental campaign that encourages individuals, businesses, schools and community groups to act to reduce waste, preserve resources and protect the environment.
