Alternative fuels payment

You may be eligible for a £200 Alternative Fuels Payment if your household is not connected to the mains gas grid or you use alternative fuels as your main form of heating.

This is on top of the £400 from your electricity supplier.

You are eligible for this payment if the main way you heat your home uses tank or bottled gas, liquid petroleum gas, oil, wood or solid fuel.

Most homes that are eligible for this payment will get it automatically as a credit on their electricity bills.

Help for those struggling to pay their Council Tax bills

We're launching new financial assistance to help Uttlesford residents who are struggling to pay their 2023/24 Council Tax bill due to the cost-of-living crisis.

We are aware the increased costs to every aspect of daily life is affecting more residents and would like to help those in greatest need.

In order to qualify for help from the Cost of Living Support Fund, you must:

  • be occupying a property within the Uttlesford area as your main home
  • be liable for the 2023/2024 Council Tax bill
  • give supporting evidence of how your household has been negatively affected by the cost-of-living crisis

The scheme will run from the 1 April 2023 to 31 March 2024 inclusive.

► Get more details and fill in the online application form

If you know anyone who does not have internet access and needs support, please contact us on 01799 510510 or visit the Council Offices in Saffron Walden where officers will assist you in making an application.

Council Tax Support Fund

The government has provided additional support for customers in receipt of Local Council Tax Support (LCTS). The scheme provides an additional award of up to £25 to be off-set against the Council Tax liability for 2023/24.

In addition, Uttlesford will top this up by another £25 under the discretionary part of the government's scheme.

This discount will apply to current LCTS claimants and will be applied automatically.

Council Tax Support Fund (Discretionary)

The government has provided additional financial support under the Council Tax Support Fund.

As part of this funding, Uttlesford District Council has discretion to allocate part of this support to residents who are not currently receiving Local Council Tax Support.

Broadband deals for low income families

broadband

A strong, reliable broadband connection is now an essential household utility for most people. It’s crucial for children to be able to learn from home, for job hunting and helps us keep in touch with loved ones.

Social tariffs are a way to get broadband for customers who are receiving Universal Credit and other types of financial support.

They are much cheaper than the standard monthly rate and are reserved for these customers to help them afford the usual monthly price of a broadband connection.
