We are pleased to announce a new planning appointment service is now available for residents and small businesses. They can book a 15-minute appointment through the UDC website to speak to a planning officer about any smaller-scale projects they are thinking about doing to their home or business.
This service replaces the telephone duty system and was supported in the recommendations in the recent review of the planning service.
Appointments are available on a Monday and Thursday, between 2pm and 4pm.
The service will initially operate for six weeks as a pilot project. After this time we will review how it has worked, take into account the feed back, and shape the service so that everybody involved gets what they need from it.
Please note, this is a free service to residents and small businesses needing advice. It is not aimed at planning professionals or agents, or town/parish councils, and is not a substitute for the council's paid pre-application service.
We therefore encourage town and parish councils to continue to access planning services in the usual way.

Invitations have been issued for the next Development Management & Planning Enforcement Parish Forum. It is likely to be a virtual meeting at this stage but if that changes we will let you know.
If you have any issues you would like us to cover at the forum, please contact ahowells@uttlesford.gov.uk.
We look forward to seeing you then.
Hospitality, leisure and accommodation businesses affected by recent rising cases of Omicron can now apply for financial support from Uttlesford District Council.
The council has received government funding to pay one-off grants of up to £6,000 to eligible businesses, and has contacted more than 300 local businesses direct to help them apply for the funding. Your assistance in further spreading this message to businesses in your area would be appreciated.
The application process closes on 18 March.
Full details of the eligibility criteria and how to apply are available on the council website: www.uttlesford.gov.uk/omicron-hospitality-and-leisure-grant.

Thursday 27 January, 4pm
This is the second of our Community Listening events, presented to the community by the community, with a little bit of expert facilitation.
The intention is to hear from members of the community and/or those supporting them who would be happy to share their experience living with disability, how it impacts them, and how the community coming together could make Uttlesford a more accessible place to live.
Spaces for this virtual event can be reserved via Eventbrite.

8 February, 6m to 7pm
Our Environmental Health team, in partnership with the National Residential Landlords Association, is hosting a virtual information and support session for private sector landlords.
This year we have presentations covering a range of topics – from how to decipher electrical safety certificates to what is changing within the world of the landlord (and what to keep an eye out for in the coming 12 months). There will also be opportunities to ask questions.
The event is free and open to all landlords within the private sector, including those who may have no more than one or two properties in their portfolio.
10 February, 11am to 1pm
UDC is hosting a virtual jobs fair in partnership with the Essex Opportunities Portal team – a one-stop shop for information on employment, training, and careers for residents.
Residents can hear from local employers and training providers and find out what opportunities they have available.
People should register online to watch live or watch on demand after the event.
UDC is currently conducting a survey and is asking local people to share their ideas to help shape walking and cycling improvements in the district.
This is part of the work to develop a new walking and cycling infrastructure plan and identifying projects that can be delivered to transform active travel provision in the area.
People are invited to drop a pin in a virtual map alongside their suggestions of what they would like to see at that location – for example, a new safe crossing, new cycle lane or slower traffic speeds.
We’ve already had over 1,000 contributions and are keen to hear more.
The link to the survey is: https://uttlesfordlcwip.commonplace.is.
People without access to the internet are also welcome to put forward their suggestions, which they can do by writing to the council: Climate Change Project Officer, Uttlesford District Council, London Road, Saffron Walden CB11 4ER.
