Success of Telford Skills Show

The Learn Telford Team were available at last Thursday's Telford Skills Show; offering valuable advice and support on education, training and employment opportunities for adults. The event was the biggest it has ever been with 2,300 pupils and 2,500 members of the public attending, supported by an incredible 300 staff and volunteers working together to make it a success.

- You will be tested in this session so that we can offer you a place on the right level of English course for April 2025.
- Learners must be aged 19 years and above.
- Fees may apply, eligibility depending on individual financial circumstances

This FREE online course is for adults who already speak some English as a second language and would like to  improve their confidence in speaking English to help with essential everyday situations when they are living in the UK.

Family Learning

This provision works within local schools and nurseries to offer a unique opportunity for adults to come into their child’s school and work alongside their child. Our courses are free, fun, stimulating and designed to help both parents and children grow their love of learning. Family Learning is currently available in many schools across the local borough and we are always looking to work with more schools.

Telford & Wrekin Skills Team Drop-in Sessions

The Jobbox service is currently offering a drop-In service from the ground floor of Southwater library from 9am – 5pm Monday – Friday. If you are 19+, you can call in and speak to a trained officer who can support with advice and guidance to help you move into employment, training or courses. We can also offer more intensive support for those customers with additional barriers such as a health conditions or disability who want to move into paid employment. We can provide customers 1-1 support to progress into paid employment helping to gain working interviews and work trials. 

Learn Telford Monthly Drop-in Sessions

We can offer you a range of support to help you make an informed choice about learning, training or employment needs. The service holds the Matrix standard to ensure that we provide high quality advice and guidance.

Our staff team based in local communities can provide you with a wide range of advice on learning and employment opportunities that are local to you as well as support with job search, CV writing, interview skills and much more.

Please contact the outreach team if you would like to talk them about opportunities. Contact details are on the attached programme of drop-ins.

The events are free to eligible children and a meal is provided at each session.

80th Anniversary of VE Day & VJ Day

Are you planning a community event to mark the 80th anniversary?

If you are involved with your local community to create postbox toppers- Telford & Wrekin Council would love to share your photos!

If you have memories and stories passed down from relatives or friends about the 1945 VE Day celebrations in the borough - please share your events, stories and pictures with the council.

Are You worried About the Rising Cost of Household Bills and Managing Your Finances?

Telford & Wrekin Council is aware that more households will be affected by higher bills in the months ahead but the council wants to make sure you have access to all the help you can locally.

The council offers a range of support & advice to help you with the cost of living pressures including:

• Support accessing energy saving grants which could save hundreds of pounds a year on energy bills
• Help for those of working age with council tax reduction, free school meals and emergency welfare assistance
• Support for pensioners with pension credit, housing benefit, council tax reductions, travel discounts and lots more
