Newport Swimming Pool update

We are delighted to announce Newport Swimming and Fitness Centre is fully reopening on Monday 25 July.

We thank you for your patience and we look forward to welcoming you back. Please see below some important information about your membership and swimming lessons in Newport. 

I am an Aspirations member at Newport how will this affect me?

There is no need for you to contact us. We will automatically restart all direct debit members payments with their first payment to be taken on 1 August 2022.

All cash payers will have their membership credited to reflect the closure and any months lost added on.

What will happen with swimming lessons in Newport?

Swimming Lessons will re-commence at the Newport Swimming & Fitness Centre from Monday 25 July.

The Swimming teaching team will be contacting all those currently swimming at Shortwood Swimming Pool and anybody who had a swimming lesson at Newport before the closure in order to get children booked back onto the programme at Newport when the pool re-opens on the 25 July.

Here's a reminder of the Carbon Reduction Scheme work that has been carried out over the last few months. 

• Installation of new air source heat pump
• Internal cladding added to the building
• Remodelling of the pool floor to reduce the depth of the deep end and increase the shallow water area. This will make the pool more energy efficient, improve facilities and increase the capacity of the swimming lesson programme, whilst still allowing all existing activities to continue.
• Essential maintenance work to the swimming pool tank, pool surround, water filtration and circulation.

The following additional works were also undertaken: 

• Complete internal re-decorations of pool hall, spectator area and pool changing facilities
• Upgraded pool lighting to LED
• Replaced guttering on the rear of the facility
• Installing new poolside access ladders, handrails and lane rope anchors
• Installation of new wall tiles outside spectator area
• Replacement of swimming pool ventilation duct
• Re-profile of swimming pool floor, including replacing and improving the pool surround
• New air refrigeration in fitness suite
• New windows in pool hall
