Telford and Wrekin Council
29 November 2021
New Covid-19 restrictions from Tuesday, 30 November
Following the emergence of the Omicron variant of Covid-19 in the UK, in line with the government’s guidance, new measures will be introduced from tomorrow, Tuesday 30 November as a precaution to slow down the spread of the variant.
Face covering
-
In schools and on public transport
The government has made it mandatory to wear a face covering (unless exempt) in shops and on public transport.
-
In schools (Year 7 and above)
Students, staff & visitors should wear face coverings in communal areas (unless exempt). Students should continue to wear face coverings on public and dedicated school transport (unless exempt).
-
In the council's public buildings
We strongly advise you to wear a face covering (unless exempt) also in the council's public buildings, such as libraries, leisure centres, The Place - Oakengates Theatre.
Travel
- If you travel to UK from a foreign country – testing rules have changed
If you are fully vaccinated, you have two days to take a PCR test (must be booked before you travel). A lateral flow test will no longer be accepted. While you are waiting for test result, you must self-isolate. You can stop self-isolating if your PCR test result is negative.
Reduce the risk of catching and spreading Covid-19
These help you to significantly reduce the risk of catching and spreading Covid-19:
-
Get vaccinated
Getting fully vaccinated if eligible is the best way of protecting you and others against Covid-19.
- Get tested
If you are feeling well - take a rapid test before spending time in crowded and enclosed spaces or before visiting people who are at higher risk of severe illness if they get Covid. This re-assures you that you are not infectious and able to spread the virus.
- If you have any Covid symptoms, however mild – self-isolate immediately and get a PCR test
- Remember hands-face-space and fresh air
If you are indoors and meeting others, let fresh air in to reduce the risk of catching or spreading Covid-19.
Thank you for helping to keep our borough safe!
