Coronavirus update from

Telford & Wrekin Council

tier 3

Coronavirus cases in Telford and Wrekin

The number of confirmed coronavirus cases in Telford and Wrekin have started to rise with a 7-day infection rate as at 29th December currently at 206 per 100,000.

Rates in people over the age of 60 are now at 149 per 100K, which is also a cause for concern.

What we all need to do to help prevent the spread of the virus in our borough

Liz Noakes, Director of Public Health, said: “Telford and Wrekin is now in Tier 3 restrictions as cases start to rise locally and in neighbouring areas

“Here are key things you must do:

  • Reduce your contact to a minimum: Our rates are increasing and it is highly likely that the new variant is circulating. So please reduce your contact to a minimum, act like people you see have the virus.

Remember that people may have the virus and show no symptoms.

  • Wash your hands, wear a face mask and keep your distance from other people: We now really have to do them 100% of the time, really avoid close contact and being in close spaces where the virus can transmit more easily.
  • Look out for other people: pick up the phone, see your family, friends or neighbours on line and check if they are OK.

  • Get a test."

Get a test if you have symptoms

You should self-isolate immediately and book a test if you have any of the three main coronavirus symptoms:

  • A temperature
  • A new, continuous cough
  • A change or loss in sense of taste or smell

If you have any other symptoms, get a test as a precaution.

Get a Coronavirus test if you have any of these 'precautionary' symptoms:

  • Headaches
  • Aches and pains
  • Feeling very tired for no good reason
  • Sore throat
  • Runny nose
  • Sneezing
  • Tummy ache in children

When booking, make sure you answer the question 'Why are you asking for a test?' with 'My local council or health protection team has asked me (or someone) I live with to get a test, even though I do not have symptoms.'
