Lockdown

Lockdown #2 - what's different this time?

As national lockdown began yesterday, many people are asking what's different this time? Unlike the lockdown earlier in the year - schools, our recycling centres and many more businesses remain open.

We've updated our website to help make this as clear as possible for you and to highlight support available for residents and businesses. I also hosted a virtual Q & A session, answering hundreds of residents' questions about lockdown.

If we all work together and follow the rules, I hope we can come out of lockdown at the lowest level of restrictions and able to see family and friends at Christmas.

Those in the Gorge will remain free until the New Year, while those in the town centre at least until 2 December.

Herts Safeguarding model

Groundbreaking family safeguarding model set for May 2020 start

We're starting to put in place a new approach to family safeguarding which parents and carers say changes the course of their children’s lives for the better.

The  Council is one of a handful of councils that has successfully bid to adopt the Family Safeguarding Model through the Department for Education’s Strengthening Families Protecting Children programme.

This will build on OFSTED rating our Children's Services as outstanding earlier this year and reinforces our commitment to ensure that children are cared for and cared about in the borough.

adult care

Last few days to have your say!

Do you care for, or work with, an adult with a learning disability?
If so, we want to hear from you - tell us what we can do to best support you and those you care for.

These will help shape the future of our services -  in providing, together with our partners, modern and meaningful care and support to adults with learning disabilities and their families. It only takes a few minutes to fill in our questionnaire, and we need responses by Wednesday 11 November.
