Works continue to progress on Newport's Innovation Park infrastructure.

The main milestones of the project haven't been impacted by the coronavirus outbreak - infrastructure work is going ahead as scheduled, with social distancing measures on site, in line with the government's guidelines.

Here's a reminder of the main project milestones:

  • Roundabout 2 improvements / new Roundabout 3 construction / A518 widening between roundabout 2 and 3 / Audley Avenue improvement/ Development Access Road works: final resurfacing continues and is expected to be completed in September 2020
  • Roundabout 1 improvement works: All works other than street lighting installation completed, which are expected to complete by the end of this month.
  • Landscaping and Ecology: September–October 2020
  • Incoming Utilities: January–November 2020 (see update below)
  • Infrastructure Works Completion Date: 20 November 2020

"The site continues to maintain an excellent standard" - says Considerate Constructors Scheme

Newport Innovation Park is registered with the Considerate Constructors Scheme and is committed to meeting the requirements of the Scheme's Code of Considerate Practice.

A second Considerate Constructors monitoring visit has been carried out on site  - here are some comments on how the work is being rated:

"The site has continued to work through the lockdown and is to be commended for meeting a major milestone, despite the need to introduce various measures as precautions against the risk of spreading the coronavirus.

"The site continued to maintain the excellent standard of considerate practice described in our first report."

Well done to all the teams involved!

Raising funds for Combat Stress charity

barbeque

In the summer, our constructors team got together for a socially distanced barbeque on site, which included a fund raising for the "Combat Stress" charity on Audley Avenue.

A fantastic £923 was raised, which will help the charity to continue to provide mental health treatment and support for veterans from every service and conflict.

Well done to everyone involved, what an amazing team effort!

Traffic management allows road works to continue

Limiting road disruption wherever possible

The delivery of the infrastructure works have been designed with a view to limiting disruption on the roads wherever possible, with work progressing under 30mph speed limit, maintaining traffic flow during day and night time.

The traffic management in place on A518 allows for Roundabout 3 construction and resurfacing works.

The current traffic management at Roundabout 1 remains in place for street lighting works.

Utilities work, to connect site with gas, water and electricity, continues

UTILITIES TO USE

Utility works both onsite and offsite are progressing well:

  • Gas connection works – Onsite pipe laying works are completed. Works are currently being carried out in the Audley Avenue area to connect the new gas infrastructure. These are expected to be completed by the end of September 2020.
  • Water connection works- Onsite water infrastructure works have been completed, with commissioning expected by the end of September 2020.
  • Electric works – Onsite electricity ducts laying has been completed, with offsite works progressing well and work currently continuing on Boughey Road. Works to complete electricity installation will continue until November 2020.

Keeping everyone safe - social distancing measures continue to be implemented and monitored

works social distancing

As a top priority and for everyone's safety, our contractor, Balfour Beatty is following the latest government's advice on social distancing.

Daily briefings allowing social distancing for the workforce are taking place.

Single occupancy for all vehicles, increased car parking spaces, increased cleaning in site offices are all among safety measures implemented and monitored.

To ensure social distancing is maintained on site at all times, any works that require people to be within set social distancing limits have been planned with revised methods of working.

All these measures enable infrastructure work continuity and progress in line with the project's milestones.
