European Social Fund Community Grants launched
Landau has been awarded a contract to run a Community Grant programme in Shropshire and Telford and Wrekin.
|
Over £860k ESF has been made available for grants to voluntary sector and small organisations in Shropshire and Telford and Wrekin to tackle social exclusion and unemployment. The contract was commissioned and is co-financed by the Education and Skills Funding Agency.
The programme aims to provide grants of £5,000-£20,000 to voluntary and small organisations for projects that will move unemployed people towards employment, training or back into education.
Projects that are eligible for funding include activities that improve confidence and promote social integration -such as sports and gardening clubs – the development of local support groups and networks, such as ‘Job Clubs’ and initiatives that help personal development, such as assertiveness and motivational training.
Third sector and small organisations with less than £8.5 million turnover and employing less than 49 people are eligible to apply for a grant.
Sonia Roberts CEO of Landau said:
“This is a great opportunity for smaller organisations to support local efforts to help people towards a happier life. Small and voluntary organisations have the knowledge of the local area, understand needs of the local community and have the potential to deliver targeted and effective localised programmes of support. We look forward to seeing the positive impact of the programme across our local communities.”
The programme will run from January 2020 with applications open until April 2021.

 Could you volunteer for us?
The Human Library is a social change event with a difference, seeking to challenge prejudice, exclusion and discrimination. Just like in a real library, a visitor to the Human Library can choose a book from a range of titles. The difference is that books are people, and reading is a conversation. The Human Library provides a safe environment for people to engage in dialogue that has the potential to challenge prejudice.
You can find out more about the international organisation behind the project here Human Library Organisation
We are looking for human books who are willing to share their experiences at our organised Human Library events. Volunteer books are individuals from all walks of life who have experienced discrimination/ marginalisation based upon race, religion, sexual preference, class, gender identity, sex, age, lifestyle choices, disability and other aspects of their life and who want to share their experiences to promote knowledge and challenge stigma surrounding their identity.
As a human book you will receive full training and travel expenses.

Please support our campaign to recruit home care workers
Have you seen our social media campaign to attract more people with the right values and skills to become home care workers? It features current workers, like Sarah and Penny, talking about their own experiences, what inspired them to apply to the sector and what they enjoy most about their jobs.
Our approved providers now deliver care and support in 5 zone areas across the borough. Enabling staff to work closer to where they live, allowing for greater flexibility and meaning it is not always necessary to drive or own a car.
If you have a friend or family member who you think would be brilliant working in home care please ask them to go to Live Well Telford - Looking for work to find out which providers are recruiting near where they live.
