Voluntary sector organisations invited to have their say on the Council's budget

Money piggy bank

Telford & Wrekin Council are currently preparing their budget strategy and would like to invite voluntary, community and social enterprise organisations to an engagement session that we have organised on Tuesday 7 January 2020.

During this session we will look back on what has been achieved in the last 12 months, our current financial position and look at the support we have available for voluntary and community sector organisations including toolkits and funding.

We would like to hear about the support needs of your organisation.

The event is taking place on Tuesday 7 January 2019, 9.30am to 11.30pm in the Burtondale Room at Brookside Central (Address is Brookside Central CIO, Bembridge, Brookside, Telford, TF3 1ND).

Spaces are limited to 2 per organisation and we would appreciate it if you could confirm your attendance by emailing YourViews.Matter@telford.gov.uk by no later than noon on Monday 6 January 2019.

Tackling loneliness

How the ROC Centre helps to tackle loneliness

Roc cafe

Loneliness can affect anybody. There are also many different ways to deal with loneliness and there are many good examples of how creative people in Telford and Wrekin are helping to address this issue by providing support to people who are affected by social isolation and loneliness.

This week we feature The ROC (Reaching Our Communities) centre café in Madeley, which shows how people are tackling the issue of loneliness in the borough.

Have a look at their short short video below to find out how they do it

How the ROC centre cafe helps to tackle loneliness

This year the ROC centre are also hosting two christmas parties and the ROC centre cafe will be running throughout the Christmas holiday period and they'd really like to hear from anybody interested in helping out.

What's a Live Well Hub?

Live Well Hubs are happening at various locations across the Borough...

Live Well Telford

They are drop-in's that enable people to have an informal chat with adult social care practitioners about what is available in their local area (e.g. local support groups, community groups, clubs, activities, exercise, equipment and assistive technology) with the aim of preventing escalation of health and social care needs.

Positive feedback from attendees includes:

  • Being seen quickly,

  • Leaving with an outcome to work towards, including applications to extra care housing and assistive technology completed at the time and signposting to the Citizens Advice

  • Ability to book in to see a Social Worker at one of their bookable appointments

  • Being able to sign up to the Carers Centre at the drop-in.

You can find out where you nearest Drop In is through the Live Well Telford website and look out for posters in your local area with the Live Well Logo.
