Telford Woods: new ‘social enterprise’ offers health benefits for volunteers working in our woodlands

Telford Woods

Telford residents are being given the chance to enjoy working in 500 hectares of woodland, thanks to an innovative social enterprise project.

Telford Woods Social Enterprise is working with Telford & Wrekin Council and The Small Woods Association to bring the council-owned woodland into sustainable management. The scheme means residents can help wildlife, improve their physical health and their mental wellbeing by volunteering to work in the woodlands and with the materials produced.

Telford Woods works with local community groups and organisations and schools. It also provides a day centre in green wood working for vulnerable individuals in local communities, such as adults with additional needs and children who need support with their education.

Telford Woods also supports individual woodland ‘social entrepreneurs’ who back the wider aims of the Telford Woods initiative.
